All-new Mazda5 wins Golden Steering Wheel in Poland
The Polish version of AutoBild, Auto Świat, celebrated this year’s winners of the Golden Steering Wheel at a gala held in Warsaw on 26 October 2010. The magazine’s editorial board announced the results of the second Polish Golden Steering Wheel poll, handing out trophies to six cars making their market debut this year, which received the largest number of votes in their individual categories.
The latest model in the Mazda family – Mazda5 – proved unbeatable in winning the van-class. The trophy as best van was presented by Auto Świat editor in-chief, Stanislaw Sewastianowicz, to Mazda Motor Poland representatives Masaharu Kondo and Łukasz Paździor.
“We are honoured by this distinction for our latest model,” said Mr. Paździor, General Manager Mazda Motor Poland, in accepting the prize. “The previous Mazda5 was considered one of the most reliable and safe small vans in Europe and received as many as 37 automotive industry and media awards. We are extremely pleased with the fact that the new model has already gained recognition in Poland.”
During this year’s edition of the poll there were 42 cars competing in 6 categories: small cars, compact cars, D-segment cars, vans, luxury vehicles and SUVs. The final results were determined by the readers of Auto Œwiat, who voted for their favourite entries, sending a total of 80,000 text messages.
The Golden Steering Wheel is one of the most prestigious European automotive awards, with a history dating back to 1976. In Poland, top vehicles are honoured by reader poll, which was first organised last year by Auto Świat, a weekly published by Axel Springer Polska.
